Please arrive to the training at 8:45am for breakfast and check-in. The training promptly begins at 9:00am. A buffet lunch will be served. Free parking is available on-site.

Please note this training begins 30 minutes earlier than most. It will begin at 9:00am and end at 4:00pm


This one day workshop is an introduction to the field of expressive arts therapy.  There will be a power point presentation outlining particulars about the field of expressive arts, along with an opportunity to witness client art to illustrate the therapeutic use of the arts in a clinical setting.  It is primarily an experiential day where we will have the opportunity to explore some of the expressive arts modalities including visual art, creative writing, storytelling, movement, and dramatic enactment.  Please come with a playful spirit, willing to experiment with the arts and don’t forget to wear comfortable clothing!

Trainer: Carmen Richardson

Presenter Carmen Richardson, M.S.W,. R.S.W., R.C.A.P., R.E.A.T. is founder and director of Prairie Institute of Expressive Arts Therapy (PIEAT) in Calgary, Alberta where she offers supervision and training to professionals and community agencies across the prairies. Carmen is a Certified Trauma Consultant and Certified Trainer with the National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children. She is a Registered Clinical Social Worker, Registered Canadian Art Therapist, and Registered Expressive Arts Therapist.  Carmen brings over 20 years experience to her private practice working with a range of issues with both adults and children/teens. She has specialized in the assessment and treatment of child sexual abuse of children and teens offering individual, family and group therapy. Carmen is also one of TLC’s rotating bloggers.
